The Journey of Anthony C.

Hyatt Centric | The Loop Chicago

Over the past few years, Anthony has risen from Front Desk Agent to Sales Manager and has his sights set even higher.

When the opportunity to expand into sales presented itself, I took it. I like to engage with guests and felt I could do that on a more intimate level in the sales department where I have the opportunity to build relationships. Plus, I’m always trying to learn more. You can never be too well-rounded.

Following college down a career path in journalism he didn’t find completely fulfilling, ANTHONY C. asked who else but his mom (who was working at the then under-construction Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago) if the hotel was still hiring. As luck would have it, they were, and Anthony embarked on what already is becoming an impressive career in hospitality.

Since joining the Sales Team, Anthony has had a meaningful impact. “A couple of months ago, we were shortlisted with a number of other area hotels vying for a specific corporate account. While we’ve had several room blocks with this company in the past, this was the first one that came up for bid after I moved into my new position. My account contact informed me that she had been particularly stressed out recently, with her daughter having just graduated from high school and a number of college visits in the near future. When I had graduated high school, my sister gave me a copy of Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Places You’ll Go! so I sent my account contact that book—making sure that I purchased my copy at one of her company’s stores!—with a handwritten note saying that this book helped me along, and I hoped it would have a similar effect on her and her daughter. While she never directly said it was the book, we did land the account. I’d like to think it was that personal touch that helped.”

Approach things with an open mind and open heart. You don’t know exactly what might have put that guest in a foul mood, but you can do something to help change it. As long as you go forward with that mentality, you will succeed. Empathy opens your eyes.

Since joining the Interstate family, the Hyatt Centric The Loop Chicago has become a second home for Anthony, and having Mom work in the F&B department comes with its own benefits. “While we always put professionalism first, it’s nice knowing that if I accidentally forget lunch, I can text her to see if there are any leftovers.”

Anthony has taken a lot more than cold cut sandwiches from his job, however. Approach things with an open mind and open heart. You don’t know exactly what might have put that guest in a foul mood, but you can do something to help change it. As long as you go forward with that mentality, you will succeed. Empathy opens your eyes.” We’re sure his mom, along with his extended hotel family, must be proud!
